One of my pet peeves are the "rules lawyers" who feel forced to give something up for Lent, so they give up (for instance) traveling to Russia. Were they GOING to travel to Russia? Of course not, so it's easy to give up!
Some people just really miss the point...

Much of the religious-related government debate recently worries me, especially the ultra-conservative revisionism of Rick Santorum. While I'm not particularly fond of any of the GOP candidates (despite being a lifelong conservative myself), the competition between the candidates to sound more religiously conservative than the next guy worries me more than their financial or military/political outlooks. I just hope some measure of common sense manages to break through the rhetoric before fall, or the GOP is going to get a political smackdown they'll feel for a couple of decades.

A Sinclair Lewis quote I ran across a while back: "When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and waving a cross."

Hope you don't mind me self-linking, but I mused, a while back on how the current religious-right in the US compares to the Rule of the Saints espoused during the English/British civil-war period.
Hi Padre,

I agree with anchorite, great post! Thank you for sharing. I was wondering Padre how you found out about Robert Grant. I came across one of his articles "Trauma and the Spiritual Journey" a while back and I really like the way in which he thinks and writes. I've tried looking for more information regarding him but I have been unable to. Do you think you can please help me out?

Thanks so much! And again keep walking in faith and with your eyes on Christ!

Nation/World History throughout the ages are/were based on greed and ambition; by the haves utilization of the havenots. That is the way of then and now; so it goes in North Korean. Without the fear and strength of the Military, the NK leader could not reign or remain in power. In life, to take on a problem, one must know that problem. Bodies must go where the head leads; if a boxer just hits the head, he will be out scored and loss the fight. One must tireout and make the other bend forward, to deliver the knockout blow. From within NKorea, it's own people know that a better life exists outside it's borders; the leader must shine as the Sun, or be blown out as a burning match. That is the greatest danger of this nation, it's match may want to go in a blaze of glory.

One thing we know is that it is not simply a mission to show the flag. I expect that Iranian personnel and supplies from the Supply Ship Kharg will stay.
Thanks

The greatest sadness, as I see it, is the large percentage of the Iranian population that neither wants war, nor approves of what their leaders are doing, but suffer such repression under the Revolutionary Guard that they dare not speak. While an "Arab Spring" movement in Iran might have helped, I find the idea of the Revolutionary Guard without the (VERY limited) restraint of a functional government to be more frightening than the current situation - if that's even possible!
Let's just hope that cooler heads prevail. I'd prefer to get our troops home from Afghanistan AND Iraq first if we absolutely must redeploy them to the Straits of Hormuz - though I'd prefer a permanent homecoming far more.

this is my first post here
their first stop was (is at the moment) Syria, where the local army has several irian "advisers" in the field.
I wonder if, instead of being an rescue ship this could be a (re)supply cargo for the syrian amry. And a special one that nedeed an escort vesell...
Or/else, we must not forget that, until now, there wasn´t any "response" to the underground war against nuclear installations in Iran, made by Israel secret services, and the cargo could also be related with this (unsolved) issue.

Wow! I stumbled upon your excellent site while researching WW2 submarines. Great article on U-Boats. (And thanks for the line drawing of the Type VIIc.) I've been aboard the U-505 in Chicago and I'm sure it was no picnic. (Makes the Knox Class Frigate from my old Navy days seem like a palace!) It's a shame so many brave young sailors were lost.
I look forward to rumaging around your other articles. Thanks again for a great website! - James Howard, author of "What So Proudly We Hailed"
