This weekend I am posting three articles on men who fought at Gettysburg. Over the past few months I have been going through my Gettysburg text and really working on the biographic portions because I really do believe that people matter. The people presented, James Longstreet and Joshua Chamberlain are complex characters. The Chamberlain piece goes into much more depth than the Longstreet one and is probably the beginning of a book. Another article is about friendship and the tragedy of war dealing with Winfield Scott Hancock, Richard Garnett and Lewis Armistead, longtime friends whose fates collided on Cemetery Ridge during Pckett’s Charge.
